IUCN Red List: Vulnerable CITES Appendix II

Rudyard Kipling described it as the "red dog" in his famous story The Jungle Book.

The "red dog", the Dhole, or the Asiatic wild dog, is an endangered canid once found extensively throughout much of Asia, but is currently restricted to limited areas within a number of Asian countries.

The Dhole is an animal which lives in packs and prey on deer, wild boar, and buffalo.

Recent positive sightings
Although its range in Cambodia is still unclear, this species has been photographed recently in Srepok wilderness area (PHOTO ABOVE), Virachey National Park and Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary.

Moreover, the survey team of WWF Cambodia's AREAS project also confirmed the fact that it is widespread almost everywhere in Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary.

Local villagers also reported about their observations of the species in groups of 5 to 10 in close proximity of the village.
