Nokia - WWF Conservation Partner

Nokia and WWF’s environmental cooperation worldwide

Background
In 2003, Nokia and WWF signed an agreement to raise the mobile communications leaders’ staff awareness on environmental issues. The first two key elements of the partnership were the Connect to Protect exclusive on-line learning program and Environmentally Sustainable Business, a process including a series of workshops to help key managers create business cases for addressing business issues which have an environmental impact.

New areas of collaboration
In June 2006, Nokia and WWF signed a three-year extension to the partnership. During this period, the two organizations will continue working together to drive environmental awareness of Nokia employees and to find new ways to enhance Nokia’s environmental performance and support WWF’s conservation goals. Additionally, WWF will support Nokia in its three environmental focus areas: energy issues, substance management, and take back and recycling. Nokia will also pilot WWF’s One Planet Business concept, which aims to reduce companies’ environmental impact.

Scope of the initiative
In addition to providing the opportunity to reach new target audiences and enabling both organizations to learn business practices from each other, the desired outcome is that Nokia's environmental performance continues to increase as a result of this agreement and that Nokia can contribute to nature conservation as well as set an example for the entire industry sector.
