Stinky's Story

Hello there, I'm Stinky Fish, your guide to the minefield of exploitation, misinformation and plain outright confusion that is buying seafood.

My friends call me Stinky, 'cause I get tossed back so much. I'm gnarled and beaten and scarred. I'm the most overfished fish in history. I've been rudely hauled from the depths by Chilean trawlers, Japanese factory ships, Taiwanese long-liners and Spanish boats. But I've actually been very lucky. Unlike me, most fish don't get tossed back alive after scaring the fishermen with their good looks and oily charm.

If you care just a little bit about the destruction of the high seas and the indiscriminate killing of marine life, read on. There are still responsible ways to eat fish, but you're going to have to think and work a little to find out how to do it.

The oceans are intimately connected to the whole cycle of life on the planet; as with the atmosphere, their health is vital to that of the whole planet.

So you see, it's not me who's stinky it's the way you people often fish.

Stop. Think. Ask questions.

So here's what you need to do: surf through my site, get the gist of things. Heck, take my 6-step programme and become a reformed fish-eater.
