World's first sustainable tuna fishery certified in US
WWF is working hand-in-hand with fishing communities to develop well-managed fisheries and create new economic incentives for a sustainable future.
WWF has been working on small-scale fisheries certification since 1999, successfully emphasizing the participation of local fishers and the recognition of traditional knowledge in the certification process. In 2004, the Baja California, Mexico spiny lobster fishery made history as the first small-scale fishery from a developing country to be certified to the MSC standard.
