England: Z-squared

Z-squared is a concept design led by BioRegional for a 2,000 home zero carbon, zero waste mixed-use community in London. It will provide homes and employment for up to 5,000 people, with retail, leisure, health and education facilities nearby.

Published in 2003, the One Planet Living in the Thames Gateway report considered the impact of a number of scenarios for the planned growth in the Thames Gateway.

This demonstrated that houses must be built to higher standards than the then current building regulations in order to deliver communities with the environmental and social benefits that the government had committed itself to.

The Z-squared project aims to demonstrate how to enable One Planet Living in London and the Thames Gateway.
