Population, Health and Environment - Girls' Education

Tribal girl collects water in the line.

Around the world, women play a central role in the daily interaction with natural resources - growing crops, using forest products to make food, medicine, and clothing, and providing shelter for their families.

Despite such responsibilities, these women are often excluded from participating in community decisions about resource use, due to factors including legal and cultural barriers.

What WWF is doing
Recognizing the different roles of women and men in natural resource management, WWF works with both groups to enhance their stewardship of the environment and improve livelihoods.

Successful women's programs include small business development, access to health services such as family planning and maternal and child health, efficient and sustainable agriculture techniques and literacy programs.
