Feeds on the fleshy fruits of almost 100 tree species
The western lowland gorilla occurs in the rainforests of central Africa, specifically in lowland forest and swamp forest from sea level to about 1,600 m. The majority of the population is thought to inhabit the forests of Gabon.
Social StructureThe western lowland gorilla has the smallest family groups of all gorillas, averaging 4-8 members.
Diet
Gorillas are mainly herbivorous, but they will also eat rotten wood and small animals. The diet of the western lowland subspecies also includes the fleshy fruits of almost 100 seasonally fruiting tree species.
