About the Eastern Africa Programme
Although the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is within the jurisdiction of the WWF Central Africa Regional Programme Office (WWF-CARPO), WWF projects in the eastern part of DRC are managed from WWF-EARPO due to logistical reasons. WWF projects in are managed by the Tanzania Programme Office (TPO), the only WWF country office in the region with Programme Office status.
Eastern Africa has some of the most internationally famous wildlife habitats in the world including the Masai Mara Game Reserve (Kenya), the Serengeti National Park (Tanzania) and the volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains (DRC).These habitats support a rich diversity of fauna and flora, including renowned mega fauna such as elephants, rhinos, great apes, lions, leopards and buffaloes.
