Growing a solid protected areas system

When the Gabon government committed itself to setting aside a large part of the country for protected areas, WWF took the opportunity to help this vision become a reality.

What's going on in the Gamba?

Elephants stroll along the beach. Leatherback marine turtle hatchlings wander off from their nest into the Atlantic Ocean. 470 bird species cruise the skies. And WWF is helping to keep all this magic happening for generations to come. Read about our work in the Gamba Complex of protected areas.
In Gamba... A major focus of WWF's work in Gabon is the Gamba Complex of Protected Areas, in the southwest part of Gabon along the Atlantic coast. WWF is making sure that effective long-term management of the national parks and other parts of the Complex tackle the main threats.

WWF is also working with the Government and other partners to create long-term funding for conservation, by creating a system of user fees, trust fund, sponsorship and private sector based initiatives.
