I lead on the whole issue of conflict between elephants and people. I manage the kunkies, go to villages, look at forest development issues, meet forest civic officials. I also meet the anti depradation squads and have contact with other non governmental organisations.
What do you like about your job?
My approach to the work and support from the team has been able to reduce the loss to some extent.
What do you dislike?
Lots of the forest is disappearing. More could be happening from the government side to reduce deforestation. They are not putting in enough resources and help.
How did you get involved in conservation?
I was involved with local NGOs dealing with environmental issues and after my post graduate degree in zoology, I heard that WWF needed people, I applied and the rest is history. I’ve been on this project since August 2001.
What are your hopes for the future?
We need some policy changes in the future to help reclaim lost habitat. Mostly we need political will.
