I give out charge lights and assist the other guys. I speak to the local people. The team calls me the GPS unit because I know all the roads, all the elephant routes, all the antidepredation squad locations, where all the lights are. During the harvest season, it’s 7 days a week, averaging 3 hours of sleep a night.
What do you like?
I love talking to people and organising elephant drives and the planning and then the follow-up drives.
What do you dislike?
I don’t like seeing elephant calf deaths.
How did you get involved in conservation?
I was studying mechanical engineering and joined WWF as a driver two years ago. I enjoy the field work and maintaining records and now I am a field assistant.
What are your hopes for the future?
We should achieve our goals - getting habitat back for the elephants, helping people.
