A two-pronged approach
The goal of the project is for the forests and rivers of global conservation significance in Quang Nam province to be managed in a way that sustains the social, economic and environmental values of the biodiversity of the Central Truong Son for future generations.
Objectives- Implement conservation activities under a provincial plan for biodiversity conservation in the strategic forests of Quang Nam.
- Develop the capacity of local communities and authorities to plan for, manage and monitor natural resources to benefit conservation and sustainable development.
Main activities
- Development of village and community forest and river management systems through institutional capacity building and stakeholder consultation.
- Institutional capacity building of FPD (Forest Protection Department) to enable effective:
- monitoring of community management systems,
- biodiversity monitoring and
- forest crime enforcement.
- Establishment of province-wide conservation education programme, with the strategy based on focal areas, species and issues.
- Protected area management strengthening.
- Encorporating biodiversity conservation into provincial and district planning and action.
- Species conservation through research, training, enforcement and community-based conservation.

- Consolidation of the current process in priority areas through village, commune and district MOSAIC's.
- Identification of HCVF's.
- Expansion of process into other priority HCVF's.
- Priority species population monitoring.
- Hunting sustainability and mitigation activities & other forest resource management at community level.
- Strengthened wildlife enforcement.
- Institutional support at the local level.
- Local level initiatives to meet agreed conservation targets.
