Message from the Representative about Climate Change
WWF, like many other organizations and governments, are actively seeking the best, most immediate and appropriate responses to the threat of climate change impacts, whether it is local or global or mitigation or adaptation. In this newsletter, you can read more about just some of the ways that WWF is already working on this issue globally and locally. In the Greater Mekong Programme we will soon have a dedicated climate change staff to focus on adaptation in the region.

Reducing deforestation: Lao PDR and carbon trading
A new opportunity has developed for Lao PDR to be involved in the international carbon trading market. Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) was recently endorsed at the Conference of Parties 13th  of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bali to provide incentives for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation by providing finances for the sustainable development of forests and biodiversity conservation. » Read more

Climate-proofing development in coastal areas

Climate change is already creating major environmental, social, and economic challenges: The World Bank predicts up to 12 percent of Vietnam’s coasts could be submerged due to climate change, and threats to Thailand include flooding, coastal erosion and a prediction that Bangkok will be largely underwater by 2050.
