Environmental education modules

What we do

To meet our goal, a strategy including five modules which targets five different groups of stake holders has been set up and is being implemented. The five modules are as follows:

 


WWF Greater Mekong's Environmental Education Programme: Community programme in protected areas (Nature for Life)
1. Community programme in protected areas (Nature for Life)
Objective: Improve the knowledge and understanding about nature and promote conservation action with local communities living in and around protected areas.

Activities: Up to now, we have been implementing programmes in Bach Ma and Vu Quang National Parks, Song Thanh Nature Reserve, Vietnam Forestry University (developing a curriculum for a course on community based environmental education), and Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Kon Tum provinces.
 


WWF Greater Mekong's Environmental Education Programme: School programme (Nature’s Classroom)
2. School programme (Nature’s Classroom)

Objective: Increase the knowledge and understanding about nature and promote conservation action in schools.

Activities: To date, many programmes for primary, secondary and high school students have been implemented in Cat Tien, Phu Quoc, Con Dao, and Cat Ba National Parks.
 


WWF Greater Mekong's Environmental Education Programme:  Public Education Programme (Nature’s Wonders)
3. Public Education Programme (Nature’s Wonders)

Objective: Increase the knowledge and understanding about nature in urban communities through public information and education services.

Activities: Under this module we have worked with Hanoi Zoo and organised events such as the World Environment Day Festival, drama at the National Youth Theater, puppet shows, and we have also improved interpretation of the animals at the zoo with new signs.

 


WWF Greater Mekong's Environmental Programme: Policy and Industry Programme
4. Policy and Industry Programme

Objective: Increase the understanding and value about nature and promote conservation action by policy and industry leaders in the form of policy development and promotion and corporate environmental responsibility.

Activities: A photo exhibition about nature and biodiversity was organized. Two short films about environmental awareness have been produced and launched at receptions for this target group. We will be working more on this module in the coming years.
 


WWF Greater Mekong's nvironmental Education Programme:  Tourism Programme
5. Tourism Programme

Objective: Increase the knowledge and understanding about nature and promote conservation action by tourists while also promoting eco-tourism.

Activities: We have provided financial and technical support for the translation of the book entitled Interpreting Biodiversity - A Manual for Environmental Educators in the Tropics. We will be working with PA managers and staff, tourism operators, and artists to develop skills to design and implement effective interpretation centers, trails, displays and materials.

We provide many services to our long-term partners, including:
  • Technical assistance to plan and develop strategies,
  • Provision of training of trainers courses
  • Provision of training materials, and development of supplemental awareness and educational materials
  • Provision of ongoing backstopping support for EE programmes
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
