On the Ground in Ujung Kulon: How you can help
There is no shortage of ways to help the javan rhino, directly or indirectly.
So here are a few ideas.
Give the rhino a business plan
KAGUM, the community ecotourism venture, would greatly benefit from a sound business plan to guide and fund their development. Yet these are expensive documents to elaborate, and KAGUM cannot afford to hire someone to do the job. If you have experience in the field, and you are willing to give some time, please get in touch with the project office at the details below:

Volunteer for the rhino
Are you an experienced diver? Or have you developed environmental education materials in the past? From developing education materials for schools to monitoring coral reef around the Park, the WWF Ujung Kulon project has a range of activities that would greatly benefit from your help. Please get in touch at the contact details above!
Have your very own rhino
By purchasing this item, you encourage the residents of local communities to earn a living through handicraft production instead of by encroaching on the forest of the protected area. Find out more about these lovely handicrafts. To order, please contact the address above.
Visit the rhino
KAGUM has a range of attractively priced tour packages available for you and your family that include trekking, canoeing, wildlife watching and observing the underwater world of the Park.
With a portion of revenues from the tour supporting conservation efforts in the Park, you will be directly supporting local livelihoods – both people’s and the rhinos’. Tours are organized by trained staff who will look after your wellbeing and security, and ensure that you get the most from the natural wonders of Ujung Kulon.
The adventure begins just a few hours away from Jakarta’s international airport.
For prices and availability, please contact the address above.
Support the Marine Conservation Unit
There is a shortfall of patrols on the seas around the Park peninsula. This means that it is still easy for hunters to enter the protected area from the sea to hunt wildlife, including the rhino.
With your help (financial or other), we can support the rangers to patrol the Park more regularly. Please contact us at the address above to find out how.
Teach English in rhino-land
One of the challenges faced by local communities wishing to engage in the ecotourism industry is their lack of language skills. If you have experience in teaching English, you may want to consider spending some time in this beautiful part of the world to give local people a unique opportunity.
