The richness of Mongolia’s landscape ranges from the high, mountainous western region in Altai Sayan to central Asian steppe in the east (Daurian Ecoregion). Taiga ecosystems dominant in the north shift gradually to the Gobi desert and sand dunes in the south.

This all yields a variety of distinct species of great biodiversity that are endemic to the regions. They provide a life-supporting service to people and all ecosystem components.

The species are internationally significant with their environmental, economic and intrinsic values. Hence, protection, sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits from biodiversity resource are an essential component for WWF Mongolia’s conservation program.
