Worked all over Nepal

Dhan Rai's background is in economics and social studies. Before joining WWF, he used to work for the Red Cross as a Community Development and Project Officer.

"I got a lot of field experience on research and primary health care projects with community development. I have been in most parts of the country and have experienced an array of cultures."

This experience also turned out to be useful in his next job - as Program Co-Manager in WWF Nepal, which is largely about community-based conservation.

Dhan was born in Khotang district, a hill area south of Mt. Everest. It is a typical example illustrating how remote many areas in Nepal are.

"It takes 16 to 18 hours to drive from the capital Kathmandu, and after the road comes to its end, there is a 3-4 days walk to reach my village. Roads have not yet been built in this district", he says.
