The lesser adjutant stork (<i>Leptoptilos javanicus</i>) is a globally threatened species. This individual is very old, and it is taken care by the orphanage since it can no longer find enough food by itself.

A new life for the helpless

The TAL project was one of the financial supporters when a centre for orphan and injured wildlife was constructed in Chitwan National Park. At the moment, it has only a few enclosures, but the facility may be scaled up in the future.

The final aim is to release the animals in their natural surroundings but some obstacles still remain. The animals living in the orphanage are probably too used to having people around and thus run the risk of getting into a conflict situation with humans.
