WWF Urges Krabi People to Prepare with Global Warming
On June 9, WWF and the Southeast Asia START regional centre based at Chulalongkorn University organized a workshop to explore the potential impacts of climate change on the province of Krabi in southern Thailand. The workshop entitled “Global Warming and the impacts on Natural Resources, Economy, and Local Communities in Krabi” was attended by over 100 people including representatives from senior government officials, local government, local businesses, NGOs, and local communities.

(Khon Kaen, Thailand)
World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. The Day was established by UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, led to the creation of the United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP).

Ministers commit to zero net deforestation by 2020

Environmental protection vital to reducing natural disaster impact: WWF
Bonn, May 20, 2008 – Environmental degradation is a key factor turning extreme weather events into natural disasters, a new WWF report has found. WWF is urging governments to create suitable protected areas and to maintaining natural ecosystems, such as coastal mangroves, coral reefs, floodplains and forest, that may help buffer against natural hazards.

Beam-Kawee Tanjararak, WWF Thailand Ambassador, Takes Young Nature Lovers on a Study Tour at Kang Krachan National Park
WWF Thailand’s team has recently welcomed Beam-Kawee Tanjararak, who led thirty young nature lovers on a forestry management study at Kang Krachan National Park.

New Nature Education Center Established to Honor HRH Princess Sirindhorn
WWF, Toyota and the Sirindhorn Foundation sign an MOU on 29th April 2008 to create an environmental education center for children and local adults on the Gulf of Thailand.
Three major organizations in Thailand gathered today to sign an MOU establishing an environmental education center on the country’s coast. Located in Cha-am district, Phetburi province the Center is designed to raise environmental awareness among local schoolchildren, villagers and the general public.

Marine protected areas in Southern Thailand to benefit from international cooperation
“The Strengthening Andaman Marine Protected Areas Network” (SAMPAN) Project is a three-year project led by the Royal Thai Government, with support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Fonds Français pour l'Environnement Mondial (FFEM or French Global Environment Facility) and WWF Thailand.
