Our solutions
WWF has selected the Barents Sea Ecoregion as a priority due to its importance as one of the most biologically diverse and productive areas in the Arctic.
WWF's vision for the Barents Sea Ecoregion is:
" To safeguard, for all future generations, a Barents region with a rich, diverse and productive nature that supports the natural processes of the ecosystem, a sustainable economic activity, the welfare of the population and the natural beauty of the region"
While we recognize that this is an ambitious vision, we believe the Barents Sea has excellent prospects to become a world-class example of successful management and sustainable development.
WWF is the world's largest environmental NGO, with extensive activities in all countries with interests in the Barents region. WWF is highly experienced in the conservation and management of arctic ecosystems, as well as in the relevant political processes.
The Barents Sea Ecoregion Programme is lead by the WWF International Arctic Programme, in close cooperation with WWF-Russia and WWF-Norway. We have offices in Oslo, Murmansk and Moscow.
