In harmony with the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme vision, the goals of the Carpathians/Forests and Protected Areas Programme are:

to maintain and preserve the area of old growth and natural forests in the Danube-Carpathian region
to enhance the ecological, social and economic functions of forests

WWF Danube-Carpathian programme achieves this by:

promoting sustainable forest management practices
improving the management of existing protected areas
lobbying for the establishment of new protected areas and supporting the effective implementation of the EU Natura 2000 legislation in the region
developing and implementing projects in priority areas in the Carpathians, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Ukraine.
