History of Across The Waters
Growth of WWF’s capacity building programme
Across The Waters started as a grants scheme in 1994, and evolved into a broad programme to address the capacity building needs of Mediterranean environmental organizations. Today, the programme continues to evolve and adapt to capacity building needs in the region.
A short history
- 1994 - Across The Waters is launched with a grants prorgramme
- 1995 - The first training is organized
- 1997 - WWF chooses Across The Waters as one of the 20 model projects among its worldwide network
- 1999 - An information hub, for networking, is set up
- 2000 - The exchange programme is initiated
- 2003 - The leadership programme is started
Through Across The Waters, WWF has acquired a large amount of experience and has established a broad network of contacts and partners all over the region.
Between 1994 and 2002, Across The Waters has supported more than a 100 environmental organizations. Over 300 individuals have participated in its training programmes, and about 2000 institutions have been reached by at least one of its various initiatives.
