About Argentina

About the country
Argentina is the second largest country in South America with a population of 37 million. It is nestled between Chile and Uruguay and faces the South Atlantic Ocean. The Argentine landscape is composed of rich plains, rolling plateaus, rugged mountains, and tropical forests. Argentina stretches from the highest peak in South America, Cerro Aconcagua, to the lowest point on the continent, the Valdes peninsula.
Eight of the Global 200 ecoregions - regions identified by WWF as globally important and in need of immediate conservation - fall within Argentine territory: Atlantic Forests, Central Andean Dry Puna, Central Andean Yungas, High Andean Lakes, Patagonian Southwest Atlantic, Patagonian Steppe, Upper Paraná Rivers and Streams, and Valdivian Temperate Forest.
WWF is currently concentrating its efforts in the Atlantic Forest, Patagonian Southwest Atlantic, and Valdivian Temperate Forest ecoregions.
