WWF's work in Peru - Species

WWF undertook an aggressive environmental education and communications campaign among the local Pisco Paracas population and restaurant owners to eliminate turtle meat consumption.
WWF has also played a central role in setting up a national working-group for marine turtle conservation and moving forward national legislation for turtle conservation in the country. These initiatives resulted in the numerous control operatives to prevent both the capture and the sale of marine turtles.
One outstanding achievement of this work was the recent reduction (by two thirds) of the number of commercial establishments selling turtle meat in the Pisco Paracas area.
