Focal Landscapes in the Valdivian Ecoregion
Within the Valdivian Ecoregion, WWF's program concentrates on three focal landscapes:
These focal landscapes are characterized by a great diversity of species and a high degree of endemism (presence of species found nowhere else on earth). Very little of these three landscapes is currently protected, and all are highly threatened by multiple pressures.
- the Nahuelbuta Coastal Range in the Bio Bio (8th) and Araucania (9th) Regions;
- the Coastal Range of the Lakes (10th) Region; and
- the Coastal Range-Andes Biological Corridor located between the Toltén River (9th Region) and the Bueno River (10th Region).
These focal landscapes are characterized by a great diversity of species and a high degree of endemism (presence of species found nowhere else on earth). Very little of these three landscapes is currently protected, and all are highly threatened by multiple pressures.
