WWF working in and for the Valdivian Ecoregion, Chile

In the 1970's, we supported the establishment protected areas of the National System of Protected Areas (SNASPE) and the development of conservation capacity in Chile.

In the 1980's, we collaborated in some of the first studies on the status of the huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus) and the pudú (Pudu pudu), two endemic deer species.

In the 1990's, we started to apply a model of ecoregional conservation which involves the coordination of research and planning between Chile and Argentina. In 2002, the WWF Valdivian Ecoregion Program office was officially established in the city of Valdivia.
