Allianz - Insurer uses 60% less paper
The Austrian insurance company has reduced its paper consumption by 60% in recent years. This is part of their policy to reduce paper use. They achieve their reductions by switching to electronic contracts and administration where possible. Allianz uses various techniques of a paper-free office. The company is further a member of the WWF Climate Group and takes various actions to reduce climate change emissions.

French government leads Europe on paper savings

The French government has committed to reduce 50% of paper used in their administration by 2012.

Bloomsbury - more use of post-consumer recycled fibres in paperbacks
Where possible the Publisher Bloomsbury is seeking to use 100% post-consumer recycled papers and are phasing this in for use in their longer length mass market paperbacks. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is printed on paper made from a mixture of FSC certified and post-consumer recycled pulp. This forms part of Bloomsbury´s Publishing Policy to spread the use of FSC-certified papers.

HSBC - Bank marketing on FSC paper
HSBC Holding plc has switched all of its marketing material in the UK, including direct mail, to FSC certified virgin/recycled paper, affecting the 4000 tonnes of paper destined for customers´letterboxes. Over the next few years, as more FSC certified paper grades become available, this policy will be extended to all of the paper the HSBC Group uses around the world.

Marks & Spencer - FSC certified packaging
M&S, a leading retailer in the UK has made a commitment (07) to ensuring that within five years all of the wood it uses - from its products or packaging to building M&S stores - comes from an FSC certified source or is made using recycled materials. M&S has converted the packaging for the entire range of "Food to Go" cut sandwiches to FSC certified board - which equates to more than 1.5 million sandwiches every week carrying the FSC label and the use of more than 2,500 tonnes of FSC-certified board each year. Also, all of M&S´s quarterly loyalty mail outs (sent to more than 1 million customers) are now produced on FSC-paper (50% cirgin FSC and 50% recycled) - this even includes the envelopes in which the mail outsare sent and, most recently, all of the copier paper, toilet rolls, hand towels, letterheads, compliments slips in 500 M&S stores and head office sites switched to containing only recycled materials.

German railways - train tickets promoting responsible forestry
The leading railway company in Europe, Deutsche Bahn AG, uses FSC paper for its tickets issued at its self-service machines. Annually, the Deutsche Bahn prints 32 million self-service tickets, travel plans and payment confirmations. Today, over 3,500 ticket machines in Germany are displaying the FSC logo.

Egmont - Ethical publishing initiative
The UK publisher Egmont have devised a grading system for all the paper they use. It is their intention to keep improving their paper sources until - when the supply is available - all their paper is FSC certified. Egmont have invited other publishers to make use of their grading system.

Otto Versand - More catalogues on FSC paper
The German mail-order company published in 2007 as first company in Europe an FSC catalogue in rotogravure technique. The number of FSC catalogues are planned to be increased step by step. Also, customer invoices are being switched to FSC paper. Otto Versand is aiming to reduce in-house paper consumption and 80% of office paper used is recycled paper and 20% FSC paper.

French post office - Ecostamps
The French Post office developed ecological stamps with majority FSC fibres and paper reduction design: about 500 000 Eco-stamps are sold per day.

COOP - Offering customers a choice of recycled and FSC papers
The Swiss retailer switched a majority of the paper products it offers (tissues; office papers etc.) to FSC papers with a sales volume of 20 Mio CHF (12 Mio Euro). Coop continues to offer many 100% recycled paper products.

Carrefour offers 100% recycled and not bleached sanitary paper in its own retail brand AGIR.

Random house - Nearly 50 Million books on FSC paper

The French DVD producer introduced 50% FSC and 50% recycled fibres for the covers and promotional materials of a selection of their DVDs. The company intends to extend this policy to all their DVDs and publicity materials.

The major French card manufacturers introduced FSC paper for their greeting cards: 40 card models of the 2008 Edit 66 greeting card edition and Hallmark for all their WWF card-collection (100 000 cards).
