Prince Bernhard Scholarships (PBS) are awarded to individuals wishing to pursue professional studies or courses.

Who should apply?
PBS supports short course mid-career training (maximum 1 year) for those working in the field of conservation or associated disciplines.

Applications are encouraged from people seeking to build skills in specific subjects that will enhance their contribution to nature conservation. In particular, women and people working for non-governmental or community-based organizations are encouraged to apply.

WWF's Expectations
PBS scholars are expected to return to their home country or region to work in conservation, or a related field, after completion of their studies. Moreover, the course should have a direct link to WWF’s Biodiversity and Footprint Goals.

If accepted, and upon completion of the course, the PBS scholar must provide a final report on the activity undertaken and how it was conducted, with an itemized account of the use made of the funds.

How to Apply
Applications (which can be downloaded with the information packs listed to the right of this page) should be submitted to the nearest WWF Office or Associate and the deadline for submission is mid-January of each year (contacts at WWF Offices for the Application can also be downloaded to the right).

The PBS selection committee, composed of a representative from each WWF Regional Programme, then meets in March; only those applications that have passed the initial screening by a WWF Office or Associate will be considered.

Preference is given to applications from Africa, Asia, Latin America or Carribean, Eastern Europe and the Middle East seeking support for studies in their own country or region.

Amounts Awarded
The maximum amount for any one scholarship under this scheme is CHF 10,000 (or equivalent), and preferential consideration is given to requests for less than CHF 10,000.

Applicants must provide written proof of acceptance on a course and the fees for the course will be paid directly to the relevant institution.
