Tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvieri) derive their name from their dark body stripes that resemble a tiger's. They are about 2m long and weigh about 800 kg. Tiger sharks have a well-defined hooked-shaped tail, sharp razor-like teeth and massive jaws. They live in tropical and subtropical seas. Their food consists of a great range of prey, including dolphins, sea turtles, fish and crabs.
The tiger shark is second only to the great white in number of recorded human fatalities and is considered, along with the great white, bull shark and the oceanic whitetip shark to be one of the sharks most dangerous to humans.
