China's woe

When an earthquake hit China’s south-west last month it caused a devastating loss of life and affected the lives of livelihoods of a vast number of people. Ding Jing, head of marketing at WWF China, spoke to Moira O’Brien-Malone about WWF’s involvement in the relief effort and how the earthquake affected WWF’s staff and work in the region.

In the steps of the Incas

Most people have heard of the Inca Trail, which leads to Machu Picchu, but very few know about the Gran Ruta Inca. This was the main highway for the Inca and stretches 7,000 km along the Andes from southern Colombia in the North, through Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, to Chile and Argentina in the South. Allen Putney, Vice Chair for World Heritage of IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas, explains why this ancient network of roads is so special.
