Forest Carbon: activities & priorities

WWF's Forest Carbon Initiative is:

  • Working to advance support for an agreed global policy framework for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD).
  • In addition, we're working on implementing REDD on the ground to ensure the technologies to measure and monitor forest emissions are available to produce real and verifiable reductions.

Our immediate priorities are:

  • for REDD to be included in the post-2012 UN climate agreement,
  • with commitments from developed countries to provide financial and technical support for REDD.
As a necessary complement to the international framework, we also need action by governments, civil society and the private sector to make meaningful progress toward establishing mechanisms for implementing REDD at the national level.

WWF's work on Forest Carbon focuses on making REDD a working reality in the post-2012 global climate treaty to achieve not just climate benefits, but also broader benefits for wildlife and the people who depend upon forests for their livelihoods.
