Lafarge

Lafarge is the world’s leader in building materials.

By 2010, Lafarge pledged to reduce its absolute gross emissions in industrialized countries to 10% below 1990 levels, as well as to reduce worldwide net emissions per tonne of cement to 20% below 1990 levels.

As quoted in the Lafarge Sustainability Report from 2005, “In the long run, we believe that all necessary action should be taken to cap the global average temperature increase to a maximum of 2oC. Since 2001, Lafarge has made a voluntary commitment to reduce the CO2 emissions generated by the worldwide scope of its operations.

In 2007, Lafarge emissions in industrialized countries were 4.5% less than emissions in 1990. Even though Lafarge operates in one of the most energy and emissions intense industrial sectors, it still reduced the CO2 intensity of its production by 16% between 1990 and 2007, measured per ton of cement.
