WWF and IKEA are committed to promoting responsible forestry to secure forest resources for both present and future needs. Both organizations believe that when forest raw materials are extracted, the biological and social values of the forests must be maintained and protected.
Over 30% of the Earth's surface is covered with forests. They are among the most notable storehouses of biological diversity on land - they house over two-thirds of known terrestrial species; they also harbor the largest share of threatened species. Forests have a variety of uses to humans, including wood from trees, nutrition from animals, for grazing, recreation, medicinal and so on.The WWF and IKEA forest projects aim to combat illegal logging, support responsible forest management, forest certification, High Conservation Value Forests (http://hcvnetwork.org), timber trade and the lack of enough volumes of sustainable produced timber and forest products. In this way, the Partnership contributes to an increased use of responsible forest products and natural wood fibre world-wide.
