The audio slide show programme
“Witnessing Climate Change: Native Voices from the Heart of Alaska” is an audio slideshow programme designed and produced by the Athabascan community in the small, remote village of Huslia, Alaska.
The project was funded by WWF as part of the Climate Witness Project. The Climate Witness Project documents the perspectives of indigenous people whose views are based on traditional ecological knowledge. The words in this presentation belong to the elders of Huslia and their ancestors. The audio slideshow consists of a nine minute, 42 second soundtrack with 75 matching images. Local students obtained most of the recordings and sorted the images.
Images of the landscape and subsistence activities from throughout the year come alive with natural sounds from the area. The programme begins in spring, and progresses through summer, fall, and winter until break-up of river ice at the end of winter.
