Why join this initiative?
Cork comes from ancient Mediterranean forests. It is a totally natural, renewable and recyclable product. Cork harvesting is one of the most environment-friendly processes in the world. Cork forests are home and a source of income to thousands of people and support one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the planet.
However, they could soon suffer from a decreasing demand from the wine industry for cork stoppers. This would force entire communities to leave, resulting in more forest fires, desertification and the permanent loss of 2.7 million hectares of forest.
Cork oak is a WWF priority species.
By choosing cork closures, leading wineries are helping to preserve a unique natural and cultural heritage. If you are a wine producer, you can also join our initiative and add value to your brand by helping nature.
