The Project

A high priority conservation zone

WWF considers Campo-Ma'an as a high priority conservation zone in Cameroon.

The strategy developed for the project is very similar to the one successfully used for the Jengi project, in southeast Cameroon. 

The first activities of the Campo-Ma'an project started on the ground in April 2003.

The project's objectives are:

  • Provide technical assistance to local authorities, especially the forest and wildlife service, to manage and protect the Campo-Ma'an National Park, and strengthen their capacity to patrol the park and fight against poaching;
  • Implement scientific research and ecological monitoring programme in the national park;
  • Develop collaboration and build partnerships with all key stakeholders in the region; and
  • Promote initiatives that boost local development, and community-based management of the area's natural resources
