Baobab tree (Adansonia grandidieri) at sunset, Madagascar. The project covers both moist and dry forests.

The project aims to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in Madagascar and resulting greenhouse gas emissions.

By 2011, the project activities will contribute to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Raise public awareness on climate change.
  2. Reduce deforestation in Madagascar, at least where WWF is working, by promoting and encouraging alternatives to slash and burn agriculture.
  3. Create new protected areas (PAs) where WWF is working
  4. Help local communities to sustainably manage the forest through transfers of natural resources management (TNRM).
  5. Restore forest landscapes where WWF is working.
  6. Promote reaforestation to meet the growing demand for fuelwood.
