WWF, the global conservation organization, is looking for a Director, Development to lead the Secretariat’s Major Donor fundraising activities.

WWF is one of the world’s largest and most experienced independent conservation organizations with a world-class brand, five million supporters, numerous private sector partnerships, a confident, businesslike culture, a network of offices covering 100 countries, and a total network annual budget of over CHF 800 million.
The Secretariat provides program and operational leadership and support to a global Network.
In order to fulfill our mission, we will focus on large scale conservation initiatives such as Climate Change, the Amazon, Market Transformation, and the Coral Triangle; and increase its funding to support them.
Responsibilities
The role is to lead and manage the Secretariat’s Major Donor fundraising activities with individuals, trusts, foundations, legacies, and other approaches on a global scale but particularly in Europe.
On arrival, he or she will also take ownership of the imminent five-year, $100 million “Campaign for a Living Planet”, targeting High- and Ultra-High Net Worth Individuals; later on the campaign will be opened up to the whole network with the goal of generating a further $500 million in pledges by 2015. A key aspect of the role will be to further develop the campaign and ensure to reach its fundraising target and good cooperation and support from other departments at the Secretariat such as Conservation and Finance, and likewise with national organizations in the network to promote joint fundraising and best practices.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- An excellent educational background, likely including an advanced degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or Fundraising,
- At least 10 years experience in a senior fundraising position in an international environment,
- He or she must have a proven track record in Major Donor fundraising including strategy, prospect research, proposal preparation and presentation, closing, and donor stewardship.
Competencies
- On a personal level, this individual will be respected from Day One because of his or her obvious expertise, ability to lead and add value in a non-authoritarian way, and strong personal commitment to conservation.
- He or she will be someone of the highest integrity, have strong diplomatic and negotiation skills required to operate inside a global non-governmental organization, and the personality and self-confidence to “make the ask” from High-Net Worth Individuals and foundation directors either alongside the Director General or alone.
- Perfect command of English and French is required and other European languages would be an advantage.
