Conservation Advisor, Minkebe, Gabon

WWF, the global conservation organization, implements a large number of projects dealing with protected areas management in Central Africa. In order to ensure adequate implementation of WWF’s projects in Northern Gabon, WWF Central Africa Regional Programme Office is recruiting a Conservation Advisor.

I. Major duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the WWF Principal Technical Advisor (PTA), the Conservation Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Directing and improving the effectiveness of the Minkebe Conservation Program
  • Development and Implementation of Land Use Plans
  • Monitoring effectiveness of conservation program
  • Collaboration with private sector
  • Project Management, oversight and planning

II. Key requirements:
  • A higher degree related to natural resource management
  • At least three years of experience working in or with conservation or development organization.
  • Field experience in Africa is crucial, especially in relation to anti-poaching and wildlife management.
  • Technical ability to develop and implement field-based conservation and law enforcement activities.
  • Orienteering abilities including the use of maps, compass, and GPS.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Excellent logistic planning skills.
  • Fluency in French and English.
  • Experience in multi-cultural environments.
  • Capable of working in relatively isolated conditions and for long periods in the field.
  • Good communication skills including efficiency in report writing.
  • Good computer skills (Word, powerpoint and Excel…)
The position will be based in Oyem or Makokou, Gabon
