Summary
The programme aims to create the social context within which WWF can achieve its conservation objectives and generate support for the organisation over the long term. It does this by establishing creative and innovative education activities that demonstrate how environmental education, and the New Zealand environmental education guidelines, can be implemented, and communicating and promoting these solutions to other education providers.
Background
WWF New Zealand has been active in environmental education for 10 years and believes that education is vital to create the social context for WWF to achieve its conservation objectives and to ensure that the organisation is supported in the long term.
Objectives
WWF New Zealand's aim is that all school age children in New Zealand receive an education that delivers on the national guidelines for environmental education. The goal is to develop and implement a limited number of demonstration programmes coupled with dissemination to education providers, supported by campaigning work at a national level.
Solution
New Zealand has guidelines for environmental education which emphasise that education should be in, for and about the environment. WWF's programmes establish innovative, creative demonstrations of how these guidelines can be implemented.
