Summary
The programme covers the issues of forests, toxics and climate change from the consumer’s point of view. It focuses on the development of national standards for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in New Zealand; and currently has a watching brief on climate change and toxics issues.
Background
In May 2001 an interim national working group for FSC was set up in New Zealand. WWF has been on this group since then and, although progress has been slow, some progress has been made towards the development of standards. Long-standing issues around indigenous logging, indigenous rights and past gifts of land to the nation, have caused significant delays.
Objectives
The objective is the development and endorsement of credible FSC standards. Other objectives are to keep a watching brief on climate change and toxics issues.
