Carbon cap and trade at risk as Japan considers climate bill

Japan is at risk of undermining its own recent commitments on carbon emissions reductions during a confused – and confusing – debate on forthcoming climate legislation, WWF said today.  Some proposals will not deliver "the emissions cap that the Japanese government has promised to the Japanese people during the elections and to the world following the Copenhagen Accord”.

The EU can cut a third of its greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy sources such as biomass.

Europe ducks call for strong bioenergy standard

After several months of delay, Europe has taken the easy way out on sustainability requirements for using solid and gaseous biomass in energy production by giving member countries the ability to adopt individual voluntary standards.  “From WWF’s perspective, these recommendations are a worst case scenario,” said László Máthé, WWF’s Bioenergy Coordinator.
